Megan McDermott received her BA in social work degree with Summa Cum Laude distinction in 2017. During this program, she worked with mental and behavioral health facility for children where she facilitated development of social skills for children and their parents. She has experience with trauma informed care, medical social work studies, grief support, pediatric palliative & respite care, substance abuse, and children with special needs.
Megan continued to her Masters of Social Work degree with a concentration on Policy, Administration, and Community Practice. She graduated with Summa Cum Laude distinction in May of 2018. She was named the Overall Outstanding Graduate by the College of Public Service and Community Solutions. She was also personally recognized by the President of Arizona State University, Michael Crow, for her hard work and dedication to improving the community.
Megan is also a member of Phi Alpha Honors Society. She worked at the Office of Global Social Work at Arizona State University, where her focus was on programs for refugees in Arizona, and on program development for Africa and Nepal. She has experience with grant writing, community needs assessments, policy analysis, budgeting, nonprofit program development, and international relations specifically in developing countries.
Megan was asked to be a key note speaker at the PAC Social Work Conference where she spoke on The Power of Self. She was chosen by the Office of the President at Arizona State University to be featured on an “Innovation Happens” podcast series sharing the importance of refugee focus and how she helped to develop a program that would employee and empower refugee families in Phoenix. She was honored and recognized at a City Council Hearing by Mayor Greg Stanton and Vice Mayor Laura Pastor for her work and dedication to bettering the City of Phoenix. She has worked as the Community Engagement Assistant of Councilwoman Laura Pastor. Megan also assisted in raising $123,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which will go toward cancer research.
Megan has committed to living a life of selflessness. She strives to work with individuals and communities that need help, guidance, and support. Whether its in her home town of Phoenix or across the globe, she is determined to make the world a better place.
