Dr. Marek Wosinski officially retired from teaching in May 2016, after 25 years of teaching as a Senior Lecturer at the Arizona State University (ASU). He is still employed by the Department of Psychology as an Adjunct Faculty responsible for expanding the Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD). He is also a Senior Sustainability Scientist with the Global Institute of Sustainability.
Dr. Wosinski received his degrees in psychology (with specialization in clinical and educational psychology) from the University of Warsaw (Poland). He had internships in various mental health institutions in Poland, Canada and England. Before immigrating to USA, Dr. Wosinski was teaching at the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University and the University of Katowice. For several years, he oversaw the Center for Teachers Training, and also, developed a program on national TV “Psychology for Teachers”. He was also teaching as a visiting professor in the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. Dr. Wosinski has published 5 books and 60 articles in Polish and international journals.
As Dr. Wosinski arrived in the U.S. in the early 1990s, his academic work included numerous basic psychology courses. From 1993 to 2003 respectively, Dr. Wosinski served as the Director of the Counseling Center affiliated with faith-based community in Mesa, Arizona. In this capacity, he provided marriage counseling, and successfully coordinated numerous community empowerment programs. In line with that experience, he developed strong interest in teaching Community Psychology, Multicultural Perspective on Community Leadership, and Multicultural Perspective on Community Development at the Arizona State University. Then in 2000, he was selected as a finalist for the ASU Teacher of the Year Award, and in 2008, received the Outstanding Educator Award, granted by the prestigious Society for Community Research and Action in the United States.
Through his entire career, Dr. Wosinski has been very active on the international arena. As a guest lecturer and motivational speaker, he has been providing lectures and keynotes throughout Europe, North/South America and Australia. His lectures always attracted diversified audiences including youths, teachers, medical doctors, managers, parents, senior citizens, religious communities, etc. In addition, Dr. Wosinski successfully organized two “Summer Institutes” programs on Community at the Arizona State University. He presented papers to numerous international conferences.
In 2003, Dr. Wosinski earned Certificates in Life Coaching and Retirement Coaching. This training achievement led him to start his own private coaching practice called “Dr. Marek – Coaching Through Life Transitions, LLC”. This firm engaged in offering support for people experiencing a major change in their life. Recently, his coaching company expanded its scope of work by going international, and increases its services, including the organization of Wellness Retreats in Nepal (South Asia).
From 2007 to January 2014, Dr. Wosinski created, initiated and facilitated the University- Community Partnership for Social Action Research Network (UCP-SARnet), an online network affiliating students, faculty members, and community leaders (not activists) in 75 countries. UCP-SARnet initiated the first partnership between Arizona State University (USA), Gandhi Research Foundation, and Jain Irrigation Systems, Ltd. (multinational company headquartered in Jalgaon, India). This partnership formally became official as the collaboration agreement went into effect in July 2012. This partnership also led to the success of “Empowerment for Peace through Leadership in Agribusiness and Sustainability(EmPeace LABS)” in Jalgaon (India), a leadership workshop available to students and community members to enhance hands-on-experiences related to agribusiness.. This workshop brought together more than 125 young community leaders from 15 African countries.
In 2014, a group of former participants of the “EmPeace LABS workshops”, alongside with few other community leaders from Brazil, Canada, China, Nepal, India, Japan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Somalia and USA, came together with the idea of launching the Global Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD). The intention was to involve high schools’ students in creating a model of global partnership for sustainable development envisioned by the United Nations. GNSD was then officially launched in Kathmandu (Nepal) during a meeting of Rotary International Clubs of Nepal. This platform then continued to serve as another project of Arizona State University. Under the Arizona State University leadership, and recommendations, GNSD registered as an NGO and Dr. Wosinski was officially elected as the President|CEO of the organization.
In October 2015, GNSD and SusTranCon initiated collaboration with China by discussing a partnership with newly created Smart Learning Institute at the Beijing Normal University. This Institute was created to assist in modernization of educational system in China by implementing information technology in the educational process. In support to this effort, Dr. Wosinski co-authored a book on Smart Learning in Smart Cities describing learning environment in smart cities in China. This book was published by Springer, and the other co-authors included Dejian Liu, Ronghuai Huang (Deans of Smart Learning Institute in China).
In September 2014, Dr. Wosinski and Mr. Rajesh Jangareddy, MEng, registered a new firm called Sustainable Transition Consulting, LLC. This consulting company became a member of the Smart Cities Council. This firm has been able to affiliate about 40 international experts on different aspects of a smart city, and in collaboration with selected schools in USA, is undertaking a project of Smart Schools for Sustainable Smart City. Under Dr. Wosinski leadership, SusTranCon also signed a partnership with the Arizona Technology Council, and as a result of that vision, both companies are organizing the Smart City Summit in Phoenix, AZ on September 28, 2017.
Furthermore, SusTranCon co-organized in Bhopal (India) two international conferences on Environmentally Friendly Agriculture and Horticulture in Planning of a Smart City and Environment and Agriculture in Planning of a Smart City) of which Dr. Wosinski was a co-chair. Dr. Wosinski also continues to serve on the Advisory Board for the conference on Agriculture in Emerging Economies organized by TERI University in New Delhi on January 7/8, 2018.
Dr. Wosinski is a member of the PHX Rotary 100 club in Phoenix, Arizona, as chartered since 1914. This organization has since been engaged in addressing global issues such as poverty, health, hunger, education and the environment. Dr. Wosinski also serves on their International Outreach Committee.
Dr. Wosinski was married to Wilhelmina Wosinska, professor in social psychology (Arizona State University), who after a massive stroke retired in 2008. After a long struggle with health issues she peacefully died at home on September 18th, 2021. Dr. Wosinski and his wife have four daughters. Marta, who worked for several years as a Director of Research at the Federal Drug Administration and then, recently appointed as the Chief Healthcare Economist at the Office of the Inspector General (Department of Health and Human Services). Alicja, who died at the age of 6 in a tragic accident. Zofia, who earned her PhD in organic chemistry from Arizona State University, and now is a Director of Global Product Management at Cepheid in Denver, Colorado. Magdalena, is a freelance internationally acclaimed photographer.
