SUSTAINABILITY CLUB FOR PEACE (Reliance E.S.B. School, Hetauda, Nepal) CLEANLINESS CAMPAING
Ms.Megan and Ms.Allisa , two graduate students of ASU School of Social Work visited our school. They come to provide social awareness to us. Together with our students we went to Manakamana Temple by aiming the cleanliness of temple and way to go through temple. The campaign started with the two coordinators along with the social volunteer who were with them. Our teachers Mr.Manoj Mirsha and Mr.Kumar Adhikari also went with us to the program to guide the student and manage the campaign.
We started the cleaning campaign from the road that we passed through. Our aim was to clean the way to Manakamana, and that was started as soon as we moved from the school. We distributed gloves, mask for safety and plastic bags which we used as dustbin. We were divided into groups of 4 members for effective work and easy handling of dustbin. All groups were instructed to find the litter and garbage in the road and clean it properly.
As we passed through the road people got impressed that we were cleaning their surroundings, and same people also joined us. Then we reached to the jungle route, where roads are divided into two parts one road is by stairs and another is fox vehicles. We planned to go through the stairs ways because stairs way is mostly used by local people, and by the visitors for reaching to the temple and its surrounding.
We decided that road needs more cleaning and care. In this route, there is shelter of animals, like monkeys. deer and rabbits. So if this road will be clean then animals wouldn’t consume those plastic in search of food. They will also, benefited from our campaign. This was secondary aim of ours. We want human as well as animals to be safe from the harmful effect of garbage.
On the way to the temple. We found wrappers and plastics in huge amount. We found 5-6 dustbin on the way to the Temple, so we poured garbage from our polythene bags to the dustbins. In every stop we found a dustbin but people were not using it.
There was one bitter experience on the way too. One boy was coming on the way behind us instead of cleaning the road he threw wrapper of noodle on the stairs. We stopped him then we made him know how the plastic can affect human as well as other living beings. He promised that he will never throw garbage on the road. He will carry waste with him if there is no dustbin, and throw it in the right place.
When we reached to the village area, we found many litters, garbage, wastages were thrown here and there. We talked to the villagers and requested them to make the surrounding clean. Then we finally reached to the temple. We took some rest and ate snacks. Then we left from there and come back to our school.
We are glad to be part of the campaign that was conducted today. We are also very thankful to Ms.Allisa , Ms.Megan, volunteers and teachers who gave us that golden opportunity. What was environment its need, We only studied in our books and complete our syllabus but this real experience helped us to realize, that it is important not only to study but also to apply knowledge in real life. We knew how effective our action could be, but we were neglecting this knowledge. From today we will not neglect it and make our surrounding clean. We took the oath of cleanliness from today.
Thank you for such a great experience,
Sincerely Yours,
Mr. Binamra Adhikari President of Sustainability Club.
