Founder and president of the NGO Suryodaya Diversity Group Nepal (SDGN) in Fikkal, Ilam, Nepal has been active in community work, farmers training programs, youth employment, environment protection activities, awareness programs d short term school internships for foreign students in the eastern region of Nepal since 2016. He was the main man behind the idea of implementation of environmentally and socially conscious, sustainable agriculture certification called "Rain forest Alliance". It was designated for tea farmers and tea factories in eastern Nepal, to put an end to pesticide use, to be environmentally friendly and socially responsible to create on the international market a higher demand for Nepali tea. There are now a couple of factories which have registered as members of the "Rain forest Alliance" since its first implementation.
Sumit holds a master's degree in Environmental science and management (M.Sc). He is an environmentalist and has great ideas for urban gardening and designs. After his schooling in Darjeeling India, Sumit moved to Kathmandu for his bachelor's and master's degrees. Since his college days, Sumit has worked in the renowned Kantipur publication house in Nepal, N-agro (Agriculture Company), Small Earth Nepal (NGO), Campaign for Change Nepal (NGO), WWF Nepal (INGO), commercial soilless agriculture (hydroponic company), and is now an entrepreneur himself. He has actively participated in conferences and workshops related to urban gardening, environment, smart city, agribusiness, peace and negotiations in Italy, India and China. He is currently a well known figure in Kathmandu in the field of hydroponics and aquaponics which are soilless agriculture farming methods. They are best suited for sustainable urban households, as they use minimum water and man power for growing pesticide free vegetables and flowers.
Sumit owns a company called Doko Multipurpose Private Limited which helps in building greenhouses for farming and mushroom production. Doko is also known for branding of local Nepali products such as tea and dairy and many other products are in the pipeline. One of their products Doko tea has reached international standards.
