January 13, 2018 (Nepal) The main purpose of my current visit in Nepal was to participate in the International Youth Peace Conference organized by Youth Parliament Nepal. GNSD was helping in organizational aspects, but most importantly – we had a panel on the topic: Global Network for Sustainable Development; Investing in Youth.
The most important result of the conference was the bond created between participants. People were talking, laughing, dancing, singing, exchanging e-mail addresses and Facebook contacts. It was a really network building event.
We also had a working session with the Leadership Team of YPN during which we prepared draft of the grant proposal for the project aiming to create peace clubs for sustainability in all districts of Nepal.
January 10, 2018 (Singapore) We visited The HEAD Foundation (THF), a charitable organisation set up in 2013 in Singapore to contribute to the development of Asia. As a think-tank, they focus on issues around human capital, education, leadership and sustainability. With an in-house research and project management team, they support research and social initiatives related to the above issues. They also run workshops and training programmes with scholars, researchers and experts from around the world. To share their knowledge with the community, they publish books, produce research reports, and host public events on a regular basis. In the long-run, they aim to influence policies and create positive social impact which will contribute to the sustainable development of Asia.
In the morning, we had a meeting with Mr. You-Book Lim, Executive director of the Foundation, Mr. C.D. Liang, Director of Development, Mr. Vignesh Naidu Director of Operations, Mr. Ben Ning, Project Manager, and Dr. Uma Natarajan, Principal Researcher. We discussed potential for long term collaboration between the Foundation and Global Network for Sustainable development (GNSD), mainly by promoting educational projects for East Asia.
In the evening, together with Bibesh Manandhar, GNSD Regional Coordinator for Nepal, we presented one hour lecture on history and vision of GNSD. Bibesh shared his experience in creating of Sustainability Clubs in Nepal, as well as our plans for collaboration with the Youth Parliament of Nepal. The lecture evoked a lot of interest and was followed by half an hour-long discussion with participants. It seems that as a result of this workshop we will have a chance to establish new and strong partnerships in Singapore. After the workshop the Team invited us for a dinner at the Indian Restaurant.
